Pandit Pran Nath

Pandit Pran Nath is one of the people most responsible for exposing Northern Indian classical music to the Western world. As both a performer and educator, Nath not only vastly expanded the music’s reach (both geographically and creatively) but collaborated with or influenced scores of other musicians, including leading lights in the jazz, avant-garde, new age, rock, and Western classical music worlds. A master singer with an almost superhuman ear, Nath was possessed of a rich vocal timbre, hypnotic phrasing, and an expansive repertoire.
