Chicks on Speed

Confrontational politico-feminist art-rockers Chicks on Speed play a high-concept mix of new wave, classic post-punk in the vein of the Slits and the Raincoats, and electronica--both experimental and dance-ready. Formed in the late 1990s in Germany, the international all-female ensemble are often lumped in with the electro-clash movement that sprang up around the same time; however, their championing of other challenging, politically oriented acts (via their Chicks on Speed label) and a high-concept multi-media approach to their own music set them apart from the more hedonistic aspects of the clubby electro-clash scene.
