About Brian Swartz
In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. When I was in pre-school, I was tasked with reciting "Little Boy Blue" for the end of the year talent show. My parents gave me a trumpet to hold while I recited it and and the end I picked it up and just blew a wild note through the horn. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Jaco Pastorius, Jaco Pastorius Miles Davis, Sketches of Spain Weather Report, Heavy Weather I wasn't 10 years old when "Heavy Weather" came out, but I've had a love affair with the album my whole life. "Sketches of Spain" sent me into a trance. I'm a lifelong Jaco Pastorius fanatic. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Jane's Domain” My quartet's recording of "Jane's Domain" from my 2020 release "To Be With You" is an exemplary take of that group playing that song. It has such a strong vibe to it, I still love listening to it myself. The performances and the grooves are hypnotic What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Performing at The Hollywood Bowl with John Beasley's Monk'estra at the Playboy Jazz Festival in 2016 is at the top of the list. Also, performing at Disney Hall is quite memorable. I'm very lucky to have played with so many great musicians. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I want to keep making albums. Making albums has always been the dream as a jazz trumpet player. I still have many ideas for new recordings and I hope that those ideas keep coming.
