German guitarist, improviser, bandleader, and composer Caspar Brötzmann plays with an attack that's raucous, disruptive, and physical.and formed the Caspar Brötzmann Massaker in 1987 to explore the connections between avant-jazz and heavy metal. With bassist Eduardo Delgado Lopez he released The Tribe (1987) and Black Axis (1989). The duo added drummer Danny Lommen for Der Abend der Schwarzen Folklore (1992), Koksofen (1993), and Home (1994). Brötzmann worked with his father, saxophonist Peter Brötzmann, on 1992's Last Home, as well as 1993's The März Combo: Live in Wuppertal with Peter's tentet. His solo output includes Merry Christmas with F.M. Einheit (1994) and Zulutime with Page Hamilton (1996). In 2025, he released It's a Love Song by Caspar Brötzmann Massaker, offering newly recorded live versions of vintage tracks.
