Drew Gress

A leading modern creative jazz bassist, Drew Gress is known for his deeply expressive playing and adventurous compositions. He first emerged on the New York scene of the late '80s, co-founding the boundary-pushing quartet Joint Venture and leading his own group, Jagged Sky. Gress has collaborated with artists like Tim Berne, Dave Douglas, and Don Byron, among others. His solo albums -- including 2001's Spin & Drift, 2008's The Irrational Numbers, and 2013's The Sky Inside -- showcase his blend of lyricism and bold structures. A longtime associate of pianist Fred Hersch, Gress appeared on both 2022's Breath by Breath and 2025's The Surrounding Green.
