In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Akropolis began as 5 undergraduate student at the University of Michigan. One of our earliest musical memories as an ensemble is performing at the Collage Concert in Hill Auditorium where we performed Circusmuziek from memory. Calefax Reed Quintet, Calefax plays Shostakovich Our first album and most recent albums are truly special to us, and we hope you enjoy listening to them! We also had to select a Calefax Reed Quintet album, as we wouldn't be where we are today without the inventors of the reed quintet genre. A Soulful Nexus” This is our latest release, A Soulful Nexus, by Derrick Skye. This larger scale work is our next album and we couldn't be prouder of this collaboration. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? We became the first reed quintet to grace the stage of the the GRAMMY®s! Our 2025 recording of Strands that won the GRAMMY® Award for Best Instrumental Composition at the 67th Annual GRAMMY® Awards. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? It's going to be our 20th anniversary soon, which we're just so proud of! In celebration of this, we're checking off a big bucket list item and commissioning a concerto for reed quintet and orchestra by Jennifer Higdon.
