Sounds of Isha

About Sounds of Isha

Sounds of Isha is a loose collective of amateur musicians formed from the volunteer force of the Isha Foundation, a spiritual nonprofit founded in 1992 in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. Its stated intent is to "rais[e] human consciousness, and foster global harmony through individual transformation," by way of yoga practices, environmental outreach, and education initiatives under the tutelage of founder Sadhguru (born Jagadish Vasudev in 1957). Popular chants like "Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra" and "Nirvana Shatakam" have amassed listeners in the millions, while a series of live albums held around the annual Hindu festival of Mahashivratri showcase the power of communal devotional performance.
