About Martin Neary
Organist Martin Neary developed a reputation both as a leading exponent of contemporary British church music and as an imaginative interpreter of keyboard works by J.S. Bach and Purcell. Besides introducing and championing many new church compositions by British composers, particularly John Tavener and Jonathan Harvey, he was also an exponent of the works of Olivier Messiaen. Neary was active as an organ recitalist and choral conductor throughout Europe and the United States, appearing at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the BBC Proms, and other major concert venues. Neary's considerable discography was spread over a variety of labels, including Sony Classical, EMI, and Gaudeamus. Neary died on September 27, 2025, at the age of 85.
