Krishna Kanth

Born and raised in Nalgonda, Krishna Kanth—also referred to as Krishnakanth and KK in the South Indian movie industry—is a prolific Telugu film lyricist whose words have grown integral to a wide spectrum of soundtrack moods. After working in graphic design and multimedia, he refined his passion for lyric-writing in the early 2000s, his first significant break arriving in 2012 with his work on the romance Andala Rakshasi. Embracing simple, evocative lyrics that reflect the straightforward melodies of his composers, Krishna Kanth’s approach resonated with a new wave of filmmakers and composers eager to look beyond the usual names. Despite early successes, Kanth faced lean years in the mid 2010s and briefly returned to graphic design for film posters. But a creative breakthrough accelerated thanks to his songs for Malli Raava in 2017. By 2022, his emotive words for the likes of “Oh Prema” and “Inthandham” (from Sita Ramam) cemented his reputation. He went on to work with composer Anirudh Ravichander on high-energy tracks such as “Ragile Ragile” from Kingdom and “Monica” from Coolie, proving his versatility as a wordsmith.
