Mikhail Gurewitsch

Violinist Mikhail Gurewitsch is perhaps best known as the concertmaster of the innovative dogma chamber orchestra. He was the ensemble's founder and has been the prime mover behind its unusual concept. Gurewitsch landed a concertmaster spot with the I Sedici chamber orchestra, but he realized that he and other young professional players he knew had the desire to play classical music in a more experimental way. His founding of the dogma chamber orchestra in 2004 was intended to address this desire. That group made its recording debut with an album of works by Tchaikovsky. In 2019, Gurewitsch and the orchestra began its Mendelssohn Project, recording the String Symphonies of Felix Mendelssohn; that series had reached its fourth volume by 2023.
