Playing a spiky, punk-informed pop with an audible sneer, Jackie Hayes defies easy categorization. While her roots in Y2K punk and emo are evident, Hayes displays clever songcraft and inventive arrangements on a series of EPs and albums that find her co-opting indie style and subverting hooky melodies. "Headache" became her first viral hit in 2020 and she built upon its streams with such albums as 2022's Over & Over and the EPs This Time and Mundane Pleasure, both released in 2024.
