In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I remember my first church solo, I must have be 7 or 8 years old. I was singing I Surrender All and I was so prepared and scared. It was the first time I stood alone on a stage and sang and I loved it. Betty Carter, Out There With Betty Carter Betty Carter, Carmen McRae, The Carmen McRae - Betty Carter Duets (Live At The Great American Music Hall, San Francisco / 1987) Both of these albums shaped me as a vocalist. I learned so much about being musical and singing from these two amazing artists just by listening to EVERYTHING they recorded.
