About Michael League

A stylistically boundary-pushing bassist and bandleader, Michael League is celebrated as the founder of the jazz and jam band collective Snarky Puppy. Emerging out of the vibrant jazz, funk, and gospel-scene in Dallas, Texas in the early 2000s before moving to Brooklyn, League garnered acclaim with Snarky Puppy, and took home a 2013 Grammy Award with singer Lalah Hathaway; he went on to win four more Grammys. He also founded his own GroundUP label, releasing albums by Snarky Puppy, David Crosby, and his own blues, African, and Middle Eastern-inspired ensemble Bokanté. He played all the instruments on his 2021 solo debut, So Many Me, and fused jazz, rock, and Afro-Cuban traditions alongside percussionists Antonio Sánchez and Pedro Martinez on 2025's Elipsis.
