About Imani Coppola

Raised in a highly musical family on Long Island, NY, Imani Coppola developed a unique musical take on modern hip-hop and R&B early on. The three demos she recorded as a sophomore in college landed her a deal with Columbia Records, which released her debut CHUPACABRA in 1997. The psych-tinged groover “Legend of a Cowgirl” (which sampled Donovan’s “Sunshine Superman”) became an MTV hit. When Coppola was dropped from Columbia, she started her own label, and released AFRODITE in 2004. Appearances on the Lilith Fair tour, and a stint with the duo Little Jackie (who had a hit with “The World Should Revolve Around Me”) kept Coppola in the public eye. Her third full-length, THE BLACK & WHITE ALBUM, appeared in 2007.
