About Richard Darbyshire

The husky-voiced Richard Darbyshire carried the unwanted -- and misleading -- label of "one-hit wonder" as the former vocalist for Living in a Box. In the early '80s, he formed the Zu Zu Sharks, whose single "Love Tumbles Down" hit number one in Spain. He soon joined Living in a Box as vocalist/guitarist. Their self-titled debut LP arrived in 1987, and the funky title track was an immediate smash on U.S. radio and MTV. While their popularity in America faded quickly, 1989's Gatecrashing featured two Top Ten hits in the U.K., "Blow the House Down" and "Room in Your Heart." In the '90s and 2000s, Darbyshire penned songs for Marie Claire D'Ubaldo, Level 42, Jennifer Rush, and Lisa Stansfield. His 1994 solo debut, How Many Angels, was reissued in 1999 as Love Will Provide (with two extra tracks); he delivered one more solo LP, This I Swear, in 2009.
