About Blood From The Soul

Espousing a punitive blend of grindcore, punk, and industrial metal, Blood from the Soul was founded in the early 1990s by Napalm Death's Shane Embury. Partnering with Sick of It All's Lou Koller, the band issued a debut album, To Spite the Gland That Breeds, in 1993. Blood from the Soul experienced a long period of stasis before re-emerging in 2020 with a new lineup and an ambitious sci-fi concept LP, DSM-5. Looking to branch out from their flagship bands, Embury and Koller unleashed To Spite the Gland That Breeds in 1993. Combining elements of unrelenting hardcore and punk with the sturm and drang of industrial metal, Blood from the Soul helped to usher in a new era of the genre alongside industrial-styled contemporaries like Godflesh, Meathook Seed, Scorn, and Pitch Shifter. After a long period of inactivity, Embury resurrected the group in 2020 for the sci-fi-themed DSM-5, which featured a formidable lineup consisting of vocalist/lyricist Jacob Bannon (Converge), drummer Dirk Verbeuren (At the Gates, Soilwork, Megadeth), and bassist Jesper Liveröd (Nasum). ~ James Christopher Monger
