In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. When I lived in a Yupik Eskimo village, I remember learning how to drum, as well as a song about how to dress and prepare a freshly caught fish. I like to think the rhythm of that ancient and precious language still lives within me. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Julie Fowlis, alterum Nanci Griffith, Other Voices, Other Rooms Tom Waits, Mule Variations (Remastered) The writing on 'Mule Variations' and on 'Infamous Angel' is just spectacular, and on 'Alterum' I love all that Julie Fowlis did to modernize these Scottish Gàidhlig songs. Tell us why you chose this song. “Across the Great Divide” I grew up listening to Nanci Griffith's 'Other Voices, Other Rooms' album, and singing this song with my dad accompanying on the guitar. I wanted to record this as a tribute to Nanci, and all the beautiful writing she left us.
