About Mat Maneri
The son of legendary composer and microtonal theorist Joe Maneri, Mat Maneri began playing and receiving formal lessons in violin from an early age. A rebellious spirit drawn to the freewheeling radicalism of his father’s ‘60s proto-free jazz phase, the junior Maneri quickly built a reputation of his own as a bold new voice in the Downtown improvised jazz scene. By the late-‘90s he was performing and recording with similarly adventurous spirits including guitarist Joe Morris and pianist Matthew Shipp, as well as helping to reignite his father’s career via several recorded collaborations. Maneri continues to draw upon an eclectic repertoire abounding in atonal and microtonal forms, as well as various ethnic traditions including Middle Eastern and Indian music.
