Karl Amadeus Hartmann

An important student of Webern who developed a chromatic, atonal idiom and a "variable meter" approach to rhythm while writing within the structural confines defined as classical. Hartmann wrote nine symphonies and in a variety of musical genres. ~ Mary K. Scanlan
