About Queen Yemisi
b. Deborahe Owen, South Carolina, USA. Owen began her career in Chicago, Illinois, where she performed as a jazz singer, although it was evident that her vocal style was influenced by Jamaican music. As she was an enthusiastic supporter of reggae, she travelled to Jamaica and linked up with DJ Merciless. The duo wrote and recorded ‘Sexy Lover’ with Harvel Hart and Delroy Schoborough at Annex Productions, which soon topped the reggae charts. The sensuous hit, with its seductive comments and sexy interplay between the two, led to a further Jamaican recording session that resulted in ‘I’ll Always Come Back To You’, for Fat Eyes. In 1997 she returned to prominence with Merciless, performing ‘Rocking Chair’ over a sample of the Four Tops’ ‘Used To Be My Girl’.
