Guy Carawan

A multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and published author, Guy Carawan was inspired by Woody Guthrie, and Ramblin’ Jack Elliott to take up a career in folk music. In 1958, he recorded AMERICA AT PLAY, with Peggy Seeger, an album largely made up of songs collected by Alan and John Lomax and Cecil Sharp. A self-titled EP was released in 1960, though recorded in 1957, and included "Boll Weevil" and "Ain’t No More Cane On The Brazos." GREEN ROCKY ROAD included songs and tunes from the Appalachians and the British Isles, highlighting Carawan’s versatility. Carawan also produced the documentary COME ALL YOU COAL MINERS, which featured performers such as Hazel Dickens, Sarah Gunning, George Tucker and Nimrod Workman.
