In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. While the grownups talked at family dinners, I was allowed to leave if I asked for permission to play the piano. At some point they noticed I was playing melodies. Shortly thereafter they put me in lessons & thus my journey with the piano began. Tell us why you chose this song. “Wounded Nation” I wrote it on guitar during a time when America felt deeply broken. It's about grief but it ends in hope. That's always been my whole mission — find the hope and help us remember it. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Performing the National Anthem before 80,000 people at a San Diego Padres opening game. I was a young mom on food stamps at the time. I stood at that microphone with such gratitude.
