Dunes

Balancing dream pop's swirling atmospheres with taut post-punk minimalism, Los Angeles' Dunes features vocalist/guitarist Stephanie Chan, baritone guitarist/bassist Mark Greshowak, and drummer/vocalist Kate Hall. Chan also played with the Austin bands Finally Punk and the Carrots, Greshowak was a member of Seattle's Talbot Tagora, and Hall was the drummer for the much-loved Mika Miko. The band debuted in 2010 with a limited-edition, self-titled EP on Mexican Summer, which they followed with a pair of 7"s -- one in 2010 on Art F*g and one on Teenage Teardrops in 2011 -- and a tape on Ooga Booga, all of which reflected a more lo-fi aesthetic than their debut album Noctiluca, which PPM released early in 2012. ~ Heather Phares
