About Jenny Scheinman

Violinist, composer, improviser, bandleader, and singer Jenny Scheinman is a major force in avant jazz and roots-oriented music on both coasts of North America. Following her arrival from the West Coast in 1999, she spent the 21st century's first decade using her weekly gig at Park Slope', Barbès, as a musical laboratory for developing everything from avant jazz to Americana, resulting in acclaimed albums including 2005's 12 Songs and her eponymous 2008 set. A longtime member of Bill Frisell's recording and touring ensembles, Scheinman has also collaborated with a cadre of top-shelf artists in jazz, pop and Americana, including Paul Motian, Norah Jones, Lucinda Williams, Ani DiFranco, and Madeleine Peyroux. After returning to California in 2012, she issued Mischief & Mayhem. A member of drummer Allison Miller's Boom Tic Boom, Scheinman co-led the 2019 album Parlour Game with her. In 2024, she returned with her own double-length All Species Parade, leading an all-star septet. ~ Dave Lynch
