Joe Gumin & His Orchestra

Drummer Joe Gumin (nee Gumina) led a territory band out of Milwaukee in the 1920s and '30s that played mostly in Wisconsin and Illinois. They got to make a handful of recordings, apparently for the Columbia label, that have found an audience seven decades later. The jaunty "I'll Think of You" shows that this outfit could swing, while "Just a Gigolo" presents the "sweet" sound equally well. They also recorded a version of "Jingle Bells." ~ Bruce Eder
