About Petter Udland Johansen
Versatile musician Petter Udland Johansen sings, plays modern violin and Hardanger fiddle, and composes. Making a living in the 2000s by giving vocal workshops in several European countries, Johansen became associated with singer Arianna Savall. The pair formed Hirundo Maris in 2009, intending to explore early musical links between Scandinavia and the Iberian peninsula, and that year, Johansen made his recording debut on the Hardanger fiddle on Savall's album Peiwoh. Hirundo Maris made its debut on the ECM label with the album Chants du Sud et du Nord. Johansen appeared on several more Hirundo Maris recordings, including 2014's Hildegard von Bingen: Vox Cosmica. Johansen and Savall are co-musical directors of the Fêtes Médiévales de Saillon in Switzerland. In 2023, Johansen joined Savall on the album El cant de la Sibil.la, Draumkvedet. He is also a composer who contributed original compositions to that album and arrangements for several other releases.
