About Brown Jenkins
An Austin, TX doom metal outfit heavily (to put it mildly) influenced by the works of H.P. Lovecraft, Brown Jenkins (named after Brown Jenkin from the The Dreams In the Witch House story) came about in 2006 after the instrumental metal band Starshine called it a day. Led by that band's former member Umesh Amtey (vocals, guitar, bass, etc., etc.) Brown Jenkins released its first collection in 2007. Entitled Squamous, the CD-R EP was an exploration of Lovecraft's Joseph Curwen character and the Whisperer in the Darkness piece, and was followed that same year by another CD-R, Call Down the Star Cult. Umesh would soon find himself out in the cold, as members Less (bass) and Oscar (programming) decided that they weren't integral to the Brown Jenkins process, and left after one more mini-CD release. Amtey pressed on, and put together the group's first album proper, 2008's Angel Eyes. Signed to Moribund, and slowly developing away from being a mere Lovecraft tribute project, Brown Jenkins spent the better part of the rest of 2008 preparing to release an EP (Welcome to the Bitterness) on the God Is Myth label (for their Lovecraft series, some influences are hard to shake) and a full-length, an exploration of the morality of everything entitled Death Obsession. ~ Chris True
