About A Broken Consort
Broken Consort is the project name of British multi-instrumentalist Richard Skelton. The name comes from Early Music theory, being the term for an ensemble featuring more than one family of instruments. It's an appropriate name for Skelton's overdubbed one-man-band approach, which contains a small orchestra's worth of stringed, percussion, and other instruments. Inspired by the likes of Brian Eno and post-minimalists such as Michael Nyman and Gavin Bryars, Skelton makes lush instrumental rock reminiscent of vintage 1970s progressive forms on albums such as 2006's THE SHAPE LEAVES and 2007's BOX OF BIRCH.
