About Steel Drum Island

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I was born in Daytona Beach, Florida and grew up listening to live music at the seaside "Bandshell". My mother and grandmother would take me to listen... and I would stand on the benches and conduct the band. I was only about 6 years old. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Bob Marley & The Wailers, Legend – The Best Of Bob Marley & The Wailers Chuck Mangione, Feels So Good Jimmy Buffett, A1A Chuck Mangione sings through his instrument. Bob Marley and Jimmy Buffett take you on trip to the islands. These are the influences that charted my course to the Caribbean and compelled me to produce a collection of instrumental steel drum music. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Hot Hot Hot” My version of this classic song takes you away to the Caribbean. It was one of my very first recordings on my first album. It was captured in the kitchen of our tiny house in the Florida Keys. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? While performing at the New York National Boat Show... the executives from a national morning news show had me perform live on air for about a zillion live viewers. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? This is my dream for how my last chapter plays out. I have always wanted to live in the Caribbean and play steel drums under the palm trees. I am there now. I just want to continue playing and recording music for as long as possible.
