Gary Lewis

About Gary Lewis

During the mid-'60s, Gary Lewis was a rock & roll star who, with his band the Playboys, made some exceptionally good (and good-selling) records out of Los Angeles, in the midst of the British Invasion. 1964's "This Diamond Ring" was a chart-topping, career-making smash that they followed with a string of hits, among them, "Count Me In," "Save Your Heart for Me," and "She's Just My Style." After being drafted into the Army, Lewis' efforts to update his sound with the album I'm on the Right Road Now following his discharge in 1968 were not nearly as well-received. However, Lewis became a beloved denizen of the oldies circuit, fronting different groups called the Playboys.
