Steve Dixon

A command of funky, groove-induced, rhythms, Steve Dixon is one of the leading drummers in Atlanta. His syncopated playing has provided a foundation for such Atlanta-based funk bands as Encore (formerly Cool Joe) and Mz. Fishe And The New groove. Playing drums since the age of four, Dixon was initially inspired by his older brothers, Chip and Darryl, whose band rehearsed at his family home. Starting off by imitating the way Chip played the drums, he soon mastered the funky rhythms of James Brown and Kool And The Gang. By the age of thirteen, he was already playing with the Rahway Senior High School Marching Band. He continued to perform with the high school marching band, concert and jazz ensemble after graduating from junior high. ~ Craig Harris
