Snuffy Jenkins

About Snuffy Jenkins

Fiddler and guitarist Dewitt "Snuffy" Jenkins and banjo-player Pappy Sherrill, met while playing for Byron Parker’s Mountaineers. Parker died in 1948 and Jenkins and Sherrill, whose comedy routines as Snuffy And Pappy were an increasingly large part of the Mountaineers' repertoire, decided to continue the band. In deference to Parker's memory, they changed the band name to the Hired Hands. Their unique mix of comic sketches, bluegrass, and old-timey music proved popular on the festival circuit and they continued to play into the late '80s. Jenkins passed away in 1990.
