About Sally Potter

Sally Potter is an award-winning English film and theater director, screenwriter, and musician. She's been making movies since age 14, and music at least that long. She was a founding member of Lindsay Cooper's Feminist Improvising Group during the 1970s and where she met longtime collaborator, guitarist Fred Frith. She appeared on Lindsay Cooper's recordings from the '80s as well, including Rags, Music for Other Occasions, and News from Babel's Letters Home. In 1991 she performed vocals on Cooper's Oh Moscow. In 1993, she and David Motion scored her film Orlando. She composed the soundtracks for 1997's The Tango Lesson, 2000's The Man Who Cried, 2004's Yes, 2009's Rage, 2017's black comedy The Party, and 2020's The Roads Not Taken. In 2023, Potter issued her debut solo album, Pink Bikini. A collection of semi-autobiographical songs, it was greeted with positive criticism on both sides of the Atlantic. It was followed two years later by Anatomy.
