About The Peanut Butter Conspiracy
Los Angeles group the Peanut Butter Conspiracy had all the trappings of the psychedelic bands of their mid-'60s era; an outlandish name, colorful and trippy album art, and song titles with thinly veiled allusions to drug culture and experiences with altered consciousness. The band's sound, however, was a little more intricate than some of their turned on and dropped out contemporaries, relying more on folk rock jangle and fine-tuned vocal harmonies than heavy studio effects or mind-expanding fuzz. The band made three albums between forming in 1966 and disbanding in 1970, much of their best work standing out because of Barbara "Sandi" Robison's powerful lead vocals. The band went their separate ways after the release of their 1969 album For Children of All Ages, and continued with various projects. Multiple compilations were issued as the years went on, including collections of material from pre-Peanut Butter Conspiracy projects, and the comprehensive 2025 collection The Most Up Til Now - A History 1966-1970.
