About Tom Tom Club
With a focus on rhythm, groove, and fun, Tom Tom Club represents the most danceable elements of founders Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth’s work as the rhythm section of the Talking Heads. Originally formed as a side project in 1981, Tom Tom Club were even more playful and party-centric than the funkiest Talking Heads material, and they scored a massive hit while crafting dance music of their own design with “Genius of Love.” The band was steadily active throughout the ‘80s into the early ‘90s, and worked sporadically from there. True to their exploratory nature, they dabbled with dance pop programming on their 1992 album Dark Sneak Love Action and collaborated with reggae legend Toots Hibbert on their 2000 outing The Good, the Bad, and the Funky. In 2012, Tom Tom Club revisited their nightclubbing roots on the high-spirited dance tracks of their Downtown Rockers EP.
