About Shootin' Pains
Merging two rich traditions of Texas music -- ranting punk rock and rootsy acoustic country -- Shootin' Pains feature two members of the legendary Austin band the Dicks, Buxf Parrot and Pat Deason, with acoustic guitars and banjos powering their tales of love gone wrong, a world gone haywire, and the myriad eccentricities that are part and parcel of life in the Lone Star State. With Parrot on banjo and vocals and Deason on drums and vocals, Shootin' Pains also feature Mark Kenyon (ex-the Punkaroos) on guitar, mandolin, and vocals; Todd Kassens (formerly with Shoulders) on guitar and vocals; and Tom Fairchild on bass and vocals. Describing their music as "goat f***in' psycho-Ameracommunist folk rock," Shootin' Pains made their recording debut in 2003 with the EP Madman's Diary, and their first full-length album, Mean Old Moon, was released in 2005. A second LP, Pray Like Crazy, came out in 2008. ~ Mark Deming
