Carolina Chocolate Drops

The Carolina Chocolate Drops are an acoustic string band widely recognized for celebrating and helping to revitalize American Black string band, folk, and bluegrass traditions. The group emerged from North Carolina in the early 2000s, playing a lively combination of standards and originals with a spirited irreverence that belied both their technical prowess and deep passion for the music. They gained widespread acclaim, winning a Grammy for 2010's Genuine Negro Jig and again earning accolades for 2012's Leaving Eden. Though the members have moved on to fruitful solo careers (Rhiannon Giddens is both a Grammy and Pulitzer Prize winner in her own right), they have stayed close, reuniting for projects including a 2025 concert at the Durham's Biscuits and Banjos Festival.
