Nabou Claerhout

Belgian trombonist, composer, and arranger Nabou Claerhout leads N∆BOU, a modern jazz quartet. She approaches the trombone in a contemporary way with lyrical finesse and an instantly recognizable warm, fluid tone buoyed by sonic effects that never sacrifice the instrument's natural tonality. In addition, she plays in the vocal and trombone duo Lynn Cassiers & Nabou, and in the free improv trio Claerhout/Baas/Peet. She formed N∆BOU in 2016 during her graduate studies at Codarts, Rotterdam. Hubert, the band's debut EP, appeared in 2019. Two years later her debut album, You Know, appeared from Outnote. In 2022 she formed Trombone Ensemble Nabou Claerhout, whose 2023 eponymous release on W.E.R.F. Records showcased five trombones and a rhythm section with guest Robin Eubanks. Two years later she signed to England's Edition Records, reformulated the lineup of N∆BOU, and issued the long player Indigo in January 2026.
