About Harbor Homme
Sheldon Lo shook up the Cantopop world when he shook the stages of TVB’s The Voice 2 in 2010, and now he’s rocking the boat again. He has started a rock band—called Harbor Homme—alongside guitarist Egan Chan, drummer Adam Chan, bassist Scott Fung (who’s worked with Sammi Cheng and Joey Chung) and keyboardist Andy Shum. Harbor Homme—whose name references their Hong Kong roots—has launched their first EP, Heartbreak Spillways, an all-English pop-rock effort that mixes jazz, country, hip-hop and other styles, to inject a fresh sound into the Hong Kong music scene. Leading up to this new project, the band members, and Sheldon in particular, were previously heavily involved in the pop scene—they are making a daring transition with this latest effort. “We really wanted to sing our own songs,” Sheldon says. That’s something that could be a delightful surprise for long-time Sheldon Lo fans. In transitioning from a solo Cantopop idol to the frontman of an inventive pop-rock outfit, he’s stretching his wings with a new rock sound that he feels he genuinely stands behind. “I feel really happy. I feel much more freedom, and more authentic to myself. This is actually what I always wanted to do,” says Sheldon. And the group has set their sights high. Harbor Homme aims to bring their unique sound around the world, starting with international music festivals like Clockenflap at home, and then moving on to bigger stages like Summer Sonic in Japan.
