About Nana Caymmi
Vocalist and composer Nana Caymmi, daughter of iconic singers Dorival Caymmi and Stella Maris, was a towering figure in Brazilian MPB and interpretive boleros. She earned the title of "Brazil's Diva" in a six-decade career using her smoky, resonant, contralto voice with emotional depth, natural discipline, and graceful interpretive skills. She sang on her father's Alcanto in 1961 and released her debut, Nana, in 1965. She resumed her recording career with 1973's Nana Caymmi and 1976's iconic Renascer. 1980's Mudança Dos Ventos won fans across South America and Europe. 1985's Chora Brasileira ranks as one of her finest albums. She and Wagner Tiso collaborated on 1989's Só Louco. 1993's Nunca Mais, a universally regarded MPB classic, was followed by Mar E O Tempo in 2002. 2013's Caymmi was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award in 2014, followed five years later by another nomination for Canta Tito Madi. She retired after 2020's Nana, Tom, Vinicius.
