A featherweight who rhymes with a heavyweight’s ferocity, Jacksonville rapper Y&R Mookey can switch from a melodic sing-song delivery to an untamed, aggressive flow. • Mookey debuted in 2018 with the Russian Roulette mixtape. • He was arrested by Jacksonville police in 2019 for possession of a firearm by a felon. Police targeted Mookey’s rap group after they brandished weapons in their music videos and “promoted a culture of violence.” • The track “Dead Opps,” off his 2019 mixtape Big Murda, earned millions of streams and video views. • The rapper’s rise to stardom was put on hold when he was arrested on a gun charge in April 2020.
