About DemiMa

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. In Durban, I learned traditional Zulu songs at family gatherings. At 7, we staged a concert in my grandmother's living room, complete with a set list, choreography, posters & ticket sales, sparking my interest in live performance & event management. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? D'Angelo, Voodoo Janet Jackson, The Velvet Rope Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope - loved the soundscapes, storytelling, electronic genre fluid sounds. Her authenticity & exploration of sensuality. D’angelo - Voodoo - from research to writing to recording to mixing - It’s genius by geniuses. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Performing with Bheki Mseleku at the Jazz Cafe in London at 14yrs old, a couple of years before he passed on. I was so honoured to be invited by him to sing his song with Abbey Lincoln ‘Through The Years’. A moment that I will forever cherish. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I would love to travel to Japan and collaborate with musicians there. I love the Japanese approach to craft and how they honour Nature. Also that there are serious Jazz, Hip Hop and ambient movements there, I feel connected!
