Just in time for the 2016 U.S. presidential election, San Diego-based political grindcore duo Anal Trump released their corrosive debut set That Makes Me Smart! Inspired in both name and spirit by Anal C**t, the pair continued to release their politically charged, anti-Trump noise -- sending all proceeds directly to charity -- into the midterm season, culminating with 2018's compilation The First 100 Songs. Formed by Rob Crow (Pinback, Goblin C**k) and Travis Ryan (Cattle Decapitation), Anal Trump's cacophonous sonic storm is provided by songwriter Crow, who also pens Ryan's lyrics. Those demonic vocals are interwoven with actual audio clips of Donald Trump's more controversial public statements, which also inform song titles such as "I Like the Soldiers Who Don't Get Captured" and "Blood Coming Out of Her Wherever" from the three-and-a-half-minute debut EP That Makes Me Smart!, which they issued before Election Day 2016. Proceeds from their album sales went on to benefit the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, and RAINN. In 2017, the pair delivered a quartet of quick bursts, starting with the minute-long To All the Broads I've Nailed Before -- featuring the song "Working Wives" which featured Trump's quote that "putting a wife to work is a very dangerous thing" -- and leading into If You Thought Six Million Jews Was a Lot of People, You Should've Seen My Inauguration and If You Wanted to Qualify for Health Insurance, Then Maybe You Shouldn't Have Gotten Raped? They closed the year with the holiday-themed Make America Say Merry Christmas Again, which included the track "Jingle Pence." After 2018's trio of Thoughts, Prayers, and The Golden Age of Willful Ignorance, Anal Trump collected these eight EPs into one compilation, The First 100 Songs, which clocked in at a whopping 11 minutes. ~ Neil Z.
