Fanta Damba

Born into a griot family, Damba started recording in the 1960s, becoming one of the top interpreters of Mali's various traditions and a star by the end of the decade. In 1975, she formed her own group, often being accompanied by her two daughters. She retired from public performance in 1985 as a legend. ~ Steve Huey
