About Gianandrea Noseda

Conductor Gianandrea Noseda specializes in the symphonies and operas of the late Romantic era and the 20th century. His interpretations are dynamic and intense, but he strives for nuanced orchestral textures as well as clear, sustained melodies. Noseda was born in Milan in 1964, and made his professional debut there in 1994. Since the late ’90s, he has pursued parallel careers in opera and orchestral music. He has held long-term positions with the Mariinsky Opera in Saint Petersburg and Teatro Regio in Turin, and in 2021 became Generalmusikdirektor of Zurich Opera. From 2002 to 2011, Noseda was chief conductor of the BBC Philharmonic. He has been principal guest conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra since 2016 and, since 2017, chief conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C. Russian music has dominated his recordings, particularly Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, and Shostakovich. He has also recorded many works by lesser-known Italian composers of the 20th century, including Petrassi, Wolf-Ferrari, Dallapiccola, and Casella.
