The I.L.Y's

About The I.L.Y's

An experimental rock duo with strong electronic and hip-hop influences, the I.L.Y.'s are an offshoot of the group Death Grips, featuring two of their three members, Zach Hill and Andy Morin. The I.L.Y.'s first emerged with little warning in June 2015, when a post on the website for Death Grips' record label, Third Worlds, featured a download link for their debut album, I've Always Been Good at True Love. The post offered no information about who was responsible for the music. It was later revealed that the I.L.Y.'s were the two music-making members of Death Grips, with Hill handling vocals, keyboards, guitars, drums, and production, while Morin played guitars and bass and engineered the sessions. July 2016 saw the digital release of the second I.L.Y.'s album, Scum with Boundaries; once again, it was posted online with no advance notice, and without a concurrent physical release. The duo changed their approach somewhat for their third album, June 2017's Bodyguard; this time, they announced the album's release in advance, made a music video to preview the songs "Gargoyle" and "Bobo," and issued the album on CD and LP, as well as digitally. Bodyguard also found the I.L.Y.'s moving away from the Third Worlds label, with garage punk label Castle Face Records issuing the album. ~ Mark Deming
