Mahler Academy Orchestra

The Mahler Academy Orchestra, a group composed partly of students, is the house ensemble of Italy's Gustav Mahler Academy Bolzano-Bozen, which itself is a project of the Busoni-Mahler Foundation in Bolzano. The core of the group consists of the students who attend three-week master classes at the Mahler Academy each year. At the end of their courses, the students perform a symphonic concert in which they are joined by musicians from various European ensembles. The Mahler Academy Orchestra has undertaken the "Originalklang-Project," with conductor Philipp von Steinaecker, involving original instruments on which Mahler's music was played; as part of that project, the group issued a recording of Mahler's Symphony No. 9 in D major in 2024.
