Zipper Catches Skin

Zipper Catches Skin

An awful lot of punk sarcasm courses through 1982’s Zipper Catches Skin. It’s particularly biting when Cooper takes aim at the shallowness of ’80s culture; he howls the ruthlessly crunchy “Make That Money (Scrooge’s Song)” from a greedy banker's perspective, and the zippy New Waver “I Like Girls” stars a slimy, Porsche–driving womanizer. Backing him are some of the hardest guitars since the ’70s; the staccato riffs driving the slasher-flick ode “Tag, You’re It” are as sharp as razor blades.
