An inclusive spirit resonates in Sidewalk Prophets’ brand of Christian pop/rock, evident both in their unpretentious vibe and their lyrics' empathetic tone. The Nashville-based quintet’s sophomore album, Live Like That, follows up their debut's success with a batch of tunes rooted in both Biblical verities and everyday struggles. A yearning for personal transformation through a direct knowledge of God is heard in the midtempo rocker “Wrecking Ball,” the country-slanted “It’s Good (Love’s Not Safe)," and the power ballad “Heart’s on Fire.” The title number finds singer Dave Frey wondering about his legacy as a Christian, while “Save My Life” looks at the shared weakness among even the strongest believers. Tracks like the Jamaican-flavored ditty “Love Love Love” and the power pop tune “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us” add needed bursts of exuberance. The album closer, “This Is Not Goodbye,” reaffirms the bonds between parent and child with a ringing note of idealism. Sidewalk Prophets reach out to ordinary believers with both humility and fervor.
