Before the Gypsy Nomads established their own sound, this remixed and remastered collection of guitarist Scott Helland’s previous work was issued with two updated tracks. His French-born, British muse Samantha Stephenson added vocals to fan favorite, “Tall Tales from the Tavern,” while Helland threw his voice behind “Ogre Dance.” The addition of Stephenson creates a completely new dimension to Helland’s sound on their future collaborations, including the essential Happy Madness. Helland surprised his punk following (he’s an original member of the legendary punk group Deep Wound with Dinosaur Jr’s J Mascis and Lou Barlow) with twisted acoustic tales high on meditative and medieval-Celtic powers. This album collects the highlights from Brocade and Catapult, trailblazing records of exquisite fretwork. “Shining Knights In Dented Armor,” “Iron Clad Maidens” and “Harry Callahan Meets Josey Wales” are among the highlights. The band has since made inroads on the festival and the steampunk scenes for their eclectic mix of sounds. Their next release Eternal Summer would be their first full-fledged collaboration.
